2017 Reading Challenge

I completed the 2016 Classics Challenge with True Grit in early December. After reflecting on what I read in 2016, and how I chose the books for my challenge, I’ve decided that I want to be more intentional in what I choose to read in 2017. In particular I want to counter my tendency to default to white, male writers by seeking out more diverse authors and stories.

Current sources of inspiration include: the Guardian 100 Greatest Non-Fiction books; diversebookschallenge on tumblr; Nnedi Okorafor’s chapter Writers of Colour in The Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature; and recommendations from people I follow on social media and goodreads. As with my previous challenges, I shall only read books which are new to me, and I will be posting my reviews here to keep me accountable.

I’m going to start a shelf on goodreads for challenge contenders, so feel free to friend me on there, and/or leave any ‘must read’ suggestions in the comments below.

I hope you’ll join me on my reading journey this year, and wish you all the best in your own bookish challenges.

Happy Reading!
